Message to our patients – update on the COVID-19 booster programme

Following the Prime Ministers announcement, your local NHS and its partners are working extremely hard to roll out the COVID-19 booster vaccination programme to our communities.

All adults are eligible from Monday 13 December for a booster jab, 3 months after their second dose.

All GP surgeries are working really hard to create as many vaccination appointments as possible, this could be at your GP Practice or at your local vaccination centre, and all patients will be invited for their booster dose at the right time. Please bear with us. In order to vaccinate as many people as possible in the safest way, we are prioritising booked appointments – we will contact you.

If you want to see what other options are available, please use the National Booking System here or call 119:

  • From 13 December for all those in their 30s and above
  • From 15 December to everyone over the age of 18

COVID UPDATE

A series of changes have been announced by the government, amid concerns about the new Covid variant:

  • 18- to 39-year-olds will be offered booster jabs
  • Boosters will be prioritised according to age and for at risk groups
  • The minimum gap between receiving a second Covid vaccine dose and booster will be halved to three months
  • Children aged 12 to 15 will be offered a second dose, three months after the first
  • Severely immunosuppressed people will be offered a fourth dose of the vaccine, as a booster

The booster will be Pfizer

PLEASE NOTE THESE CHANGES WILL BE PHASED IN OVER THE COMING WEEKS AND DO TAKE EFFECT IMMEDIATELY.  PLEASE WAIT FOR YOUR INVITE FROM THE NHS AND DO NOT CALL RECEPTION AS THEY WILL BE UNABLE TO BOOK ANYONE IN THE NEW COHORTS YET.

** 2021 FLU AND COVID BOOSTER CAMPAIGN **

The Waitrose Vaccination site in Bracknell, which is run by Berkshire Primary Care will soon be contacting all eligible patients for both flu and booster COVID vaccinations in line with the Government advice. Where possible the vaccines will be co-administered (both at the same time).

COVID boosters can only be given 6 months after the second COVID vaccination so you will be contacted then.  Where patients would be at higher risk of flu as their COVID booster is not due until later in winter the season, we will be inviting patients to have their flu vaccine first and then return for the COVID booster once eligible.

Both the flu and COVID vaccine stocks are currently limited so we will be inviting patients in priority order and as soon as we can.  The first initial cohorts will be care home patients and those with immunosuppression conditions. Following that the recall will be in the same order as the COVID vaccinations.

Please ensure your GP practice has your correct telephone numbers and you will receive a text or call to book your appointments directly from Berkshire Primary Care.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic, General Practices have adopted a total triage policy as guided by NHS & Public Health England to keep patients and staff safe. However, we have had some issues which have caused our patients a lot of frustration with only 1 intercom system being provided for two surgeries. Both surgeries have agreed that it would be best practice to open the doors between 09:00 and 18:00 as of Tuesday 31st August 2021 to ease the pressure of wait times for patients using the intercom.

However, we are aware that the risk from Covid-19 cases remains and we need to keep our staff and vulnerable patients safe. We would therefore like patients to kindly adhere to our strict requests as a medical establishment:

  • Appointments will only be booked by submitting an online consultation using eConsult which can be found on the home page of our website.
  • Wear face coverings at all times when in the surgery building and during your consultation.
  • Patients who have pre-booked appointments and arrive by car should wait in their car until the clinician calls your mobile to confirm they are ready to see you, there is no need to let Reception know that you have arrived.
  • Patients who have a pre-booked appointment and arrive on foot will be able to use the waiting room if not at capacity.
  • A maximum of 10 patients are allowed to remain in the waiting room at any one time.
  • Chairs in the waiting room will be socially distanced, please do not move or change the position of the chairs.
  • The internal doors will be closed once capacity is reached, however the lobby area will remain open in case of bad weather.
  • Patients who are bringing samples to the surgery are kindly requested to attend after 09:30.

We hope that our decision will help to ease some of the frustration in the reception area.

We kindly ask that patients refrain from coming to the Surgery unless they have been asked to do so by a GP or they have a pre-booked appointment with one of our Nursing team. This is to ensure continued protection for our vulnerable patients and staff.

Any patients attending the Surgery for booked appointments must continue to wear face coverings and observe social distancing.

Covid-19 Government Roadmap Step 4

The UK government has announced that it will be moving to Step 4 of its Roadmap on Monday 19th July 2021 and as a medical environment, our doors will remain closed and we kindly ask that patients refrain from coming to the Surgery unless they have been asked to do so by a GP or they have a pre-booked appointment with one of our Nursing team.  This is to ensure continued protection for our vulnerable patients and staff.

Any patients attending the Surgery for booked appointments must continue to wear face coverings and observe social distancing.
